Messianic congregations in Israel have been called to three days of prayer and fasting, focusing on repentance among themselves as well as the nation.

The stirring call, signed by several dozen leaders, said the October 7th massacre had come about because of sin in the land – and that it was no coincidence that it occurred just a day after the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, which had also taken Israel by surprise.

They added: “The unprotected southern border of Israel was a reflection of an ominous spiritual reality that our spiritual gates were open and unprotected so that Satan could bitterly attack us because of sin in our Land.”

The threat now also posed by Hezbollah to the north along with the ever-increasing spectre of atomic war with Iran meant that, if ever there was a time for the indigenous body of Messiah (referring to Jewish followers of Jesus) to intervene on behalf of the nation, it was now.

Acknowledging that there were also unresolved issues of division and unforgiveness among believers, they said the national sin included division among the leadership, the shedding of innocent blood through abortion, the advocacy of immorality and sexual perversion, and the “great sin” of rejecting the sovereignty of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob over the land and its people. All of which had worked to remove God’s covering of blessing and a great measure of his protection.

“The Nova party (among the scenes of the October 7th attack) at which our youth were dancing around a large statue of Shiva was reminiscent of the sin of the Golden Calf and a clear warning of its consequences – though we do mourn with all those who have suffered and lost their loved ones at this event.”

Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, known as the Destroyer within the Hindu ‘trinity’ which also includes Brahma and Vishnu.1

The three days of fasting and prayer were due to conclude today (Tuesday, February 27th).
