Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, whose improbable journey from Division II Ferris State to leading the Rebels into the College Football Playoff has captivated fans, consistently directs the spotlight to his deep Christian faith.

In the wake of Ole Miss’ thrilling 39-34 comeback victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl quarterfinal on New Year’s Day 2026, Chambliss wasted no time giving glory to God in his on-field interview with ESPN. “Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, through and through—He’s been with me [through the] ups and downs,” he declared. “I just got to give thanks to God. It’s been an amazing, amazing journey.”

The College Football Playoff quarterfinal was held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Ole Miss’s Lucas Carneiro hit a 47-yard field goal with six seconds left, while Chambliss threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rebels to victory. With the win, Ole Miss advanced to the CFP semifinals to face Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.

This quarterback’s witness for Christ is nothing new for the 23-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Throughout the 2025 season, Chambliss has openly shared how his relationship with God anchors him amid the pressures of SEC football. After stepping in as starter following an injury to Austin Simmons and guiding Ole Miss to key wins, he told reporters following a victory over Arkansas, “God’s got me. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was with me the whole time,” according to Sports Spectrum. With a smile, he added, “But I was a little nervous.”

His name, Trinidad—meaning “Trinity” in Spanish—was chosen deliberately by his parents, Trent and Cheryl Chambliss, to reflect their commitment to Christ. Cheryl’s late father, Donald Griffioen, was a pastor who planted churches across the country. “We are a faith-based family,” Cheryl told ESPN. “Trinidad was just fine with me because it translates to Trinity, and so that’s very important.”

From his high school days, Chambliss has leaned on Philippians 4:13—“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”—a verse that once highlighted his recruiting profile and continues to define his outlook. His Instagram bio simply reads “Jesus is King,” and he frequently posts about his walk with the Lord.

Even as he awaits an NCAA decision on a waiver for an extra year of eligibility, Chambliss remains steadfast. “It’s up to the NCAA. Out of my control. I have all my faith in Jesus Christ,” he said recently, according to the Clarion Ledger.

On one of college football’s biggest days, bringing in the new year, Chambliss’ performance and bold witness stood out, reminding believers that real strength comes from above.
