Are mysterious trumpet sounds in the sky a warm-up for Christ’s return?

“And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” –Matthew 24:31

For almost a decade, people scattered throughout the world have reported unnerving trumpet-like sounds that are so loud they stop and scan the heavens to find the source.

To some, it sounds like the brass section of a symphony orchestra warming up, as demonstrated by a collection of videos filmed from the U.S., Ukraine, Germany and Belarus, according to a report by the DailyMail.

The first YouTube video recording the sounds was posted in 2008 by an observer in Belarus.

Kimberly Wookey from Terrace, British Columbia in Canada also recorded the trumpet sounds in the months of May and August, 2013. “On the morning of August 29, 2013 at approximately 7:30 am I was awoken by these sounds,” she recounted.

“I shot out of bed realizing it was the same sounds I had heard before and I ran looking for a camera to try to capture them with. I came out into the living room to find my seven-year-old son awake and scared wondering what was going on. He had said the noises woke him up as well and shook his window.

“I managed to record three clips showing almost five minutes of these strange sounds. After it was over and I sat down at the computer to upload the video. After checking my Facebook I noticed a lot of locals had heard the same sounds again but this time it was far more widespread.

“I have no idea what these sounds are but it is pretty strange and I am glad that I was able to catch them this time and share what I heard. The sounds were heard again on Sept 8th at 6:30am so far we have confirmed reports of it being heard from town to the lake, 25km away.

Wookey has speculated that the noise could be caused by a geophysical phenomenon. She contacted a local construction company to see if their activities might be the source. The company told her that none of their construction equipment could make such a noise.

Another recording of the sound was made in Kiev, Ukraine in August 2011, according to the DailyMail. An eyewitness said: “The sound was extremely loud, with some people 30-40km from the recording also hearing it in other cities. It was in the news with the investigation with specialists and scientists, but there is still no exact explanation.”

A myriad of theories for the origin of the sounds have included the grinding of tectonic plates, atmospheric pressure, train sounds, construction, aliens, testing of weapons, and signs related to Jesus’ return.

In the Book of Revelation, seven trumpets are sounded, one at a time, to signal apocalyptic events that unfold at the end of time.

Aaron Traylor captured a recording of the sounds in Missoula, Montana on February 18, 2012:  “I was taking my daughter out for her daily exercise along with my dog,” he told the DailyMail. “I started to hear the sounds early on in our little adventure and the first time it was heard my dog perked her ears up and my daughter stopped in her tracks.

“That sound was identical to the one I had taped later, and lasted just as long. Now since I’ve been following this worldwide strange sounds phenomenon for some time, the whole ‘End of the world’ thing popped instantly into my head,” Traylor said.

“What if this was one of those sounds? I had my phone ready to capture the next one just in case. Sure enough, five minutes later the sound had returned.”

Traylor doesn’t believe the noise is made by trains or planes. “The Missoula rail system is one very loud and unpredictable beast. Trains connecting their loads to another is a sound very familiar to locals. Loud bangs and screeches can be heard from nearly 10 miles away at any given point throughout the day,” he noted.

“I’ve lived in this neighborhood for nearly four years and have heard all kinds of planes coming and going overhead and on the runway. I’ve never heard a plane sound like this before.”

In Allen, Texas, in 2012, the mysterious trumpet sounds caused a group of people to stop and point toward the sky, with one bellowing: “It’s weird, I’ve never heard anything like that.”

  1. At least one person has admitted creating one such video from other recordings of odd and strange noises. Many occurances remain unexplained. Much more study should be done before the noises can be attributed to anything. Sound pressure waves have to have an energy source and it seems likely to be the wind. Time will tell.

  2. Mark, I am SO glad you reported this! OK, let me add my own experience. A little over a year ago I was in bed and I HEARD THE TRUMPETS. My husband hadn’t come to bed yet. I heard them as though they were in an orchestra tuning up–very much like a few of the You Tube recordings you have above.

Now, I am eager for Christ to return and to me it sounded like they were tuning up. My honest reaction? I smiled in my bed and said to God, “Gee, I wish we lived by a graveyard. I’d love to see the dead in Christ go up first.”

    • Me too, Hope! It’s going to be the most incredible event since Jesus’ Resurrection! See you there!

      • Jan, unbelievably God said He will give a reward for those who look for His appearing. Can you imagine? Yes, I’ll see you there!

    • I saw a video compilation like this last year and then listened to what a Jewish Shofar trumpet sounded like. They sound just alike.
I smiled too. I’m ready. I keep repeating “Come Lord Jesus, Come back for us!”

    • Thank you Mark for this write up!

In reply to you Hope and Jan, both my husband and I heard the trumpet-like sound in early October 2012 in Bloomington, MN. It was a warm night and we had our window open. I am so grateful we both heard it…two or more witnesses don’t ya know! It was a loud two-toned sound similar to the one in Allen, Texas. Yes, it is a warm-up for the REAL thing! Keep watching and listening saints. Oh and Hope I like your comment about being able to see the dead in Christ rise first!

  3. I don’t believe we’ll have any warning. The Bible says “He will come like a thief in the night.”

I have heard there is a meteor headed for earth and the sounds we are hearing are coming from its
approach, predicted to arrive in Sept. of 2015.

As you say, Ed Stone, only time will tell.

    • It cannot be the sound of a meteor APPROACHING or anything similar as these objects are supersonic – faster than sound. You would only hear them AFTER they pass.

    • Actually, the Bible tells us that that day shall come as a thief in the night to those who are not looking for our Lords return. Read carefully the scriptures:

1 Thessalonians 5King James Version (KJV)

5 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you (in other words, Christians will know by Prophecy, that the day of the Lord is at hand).

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness (our eyes and ears are open to the signs given in Prophecy), that that day should overtake you as a thief (Christians in a right relationship with Christ Jesus will not be caught off guard).

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober (sober minded spiritually).

I do believe these COULD be part of the ‘strange signs’ that appear before His return.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

In either case, people had better get ready to either accept what God is bringing either with great and wonderful expectation, or with fear and trembling. That will be determined by their position in Christ Jesus or without Christ Jesus.

  4. In my mind these are not musical sounds, but sound more like ominous harbingers of some sort of unpleasant ‘something’ ahead for humanity. Sounds more like destruction as in war, strife, etc. One thing for sure, God is sovereign and humanity had better believe it before it’s too late. The Bible is humanity’s only safeguard.

  5. in April this year. I heard one loud trumpet blow and woke up and thought returning of Jesus. I then heard a roaring lion running and bird and I heard it leap pass me but never landed. Then I saw an angel by my broken foot leaning down and I was scared and Jesus said its alright and put me back in deep sleep. My foot was healed and i asked my pastor and friends and they didn’t hear it. I know mine was from God. A spiritual awaken. Jesus is coming and we need to be prepared and in holiness.

  6. . Haibo. . these sounds. . oh honestly : nothing like the beautiful trumpet sounds we have heard of. . honestly it this were divine it would not sound so dis-organized rumblimbig?
God has MORE much more harmony and symphony that that!!!

  7. I don’t know what to make of this, to date I haven’t heard anything yet. I am in Tn if that has anything to do with it.

  8. Doesn’t sound like a good sign…more of a warning. Gave me the creeps, like something awful is coming.
